Follow Jorian's journey as he transitions from the BSc in Global Responsibility and Leadership to the MSc Climate Adaptation Governance at Campus Fryslân.

What is your academic background?
I hold a BSc in Global Responsibility and Leadership from Campus Fryslân.

How was it to switch from BSc to MSc?
The switch was quite smooth due to the striking similarity in class structures. We often have the same professors and similar assignments to those I had in my BSc.

What motivated your choice to study Climate Adaptation Governance?
After my BSc, I was keen on sticking with Campus Fryslân’s approach of tackling ongoing debates. I was intrigued by the mix of Sustainable Tourism & Society+Climate Adaptation in the MSc Cultural Geography programme. The study has a forward-thinking vibe that resonates with my interests and preferences, making it a perfect fit for me.

What led you to select this program at Campus Fryslân over others?
From a practical standpoint, I have a job here in the area. On a more ideological note, it's the vibrant diversity and the warm, welcoming atmosphere that define the unique journey at Campus Fryslân. I had an incredible experience during my BSc and I was reluctant to leave the close-knit community that I found here. I knew I wouldn't find a similar atmosphere elsewhere, especially considering the feedback I received from former classmates who studied here and are now pursuing their master's degrees at much larger faculties. All these factors combined significantly influenced my decision and ultimately led me to choose the programme at Campus Fryslân.

How has the workload been for you so far?
So far, it's been manageable despite juggling a job and some volunteering on the side.

How are the interactions with the teaching staff?
There's a minimal sense of hierarchy and the small class size makes the experience truly personal. Teachers are down-to-earth and easy to talk to, generally willing to accommodate your needs and consider your feedback. It really feels like a customized learning experience.

Is the programme what you expected it to be?
Overall, yes. The programme feels familiar, in true Campus Fryslân style. However, the new topics and different angles have been surprisingly enjoyable. It's added an unexpected, enriching element to the knowledge I gathered during my BSc.

Is there anything else you would like to share to help prospective students decide in favor of this MSc programme?
Certainly, the tight-knit community here offers a smooth transition for BSc graduates at CF. This MSc ensures a seamless continuation in both teaching style and subject matter. It allows students to expand upon the skills acquired during their bachelor’s studies. Simultaneously, as a master's programme, it provides an opportunity to narrow down their chosen field of expertise and deepen their knowledge in what they are most interested in.
