As excitement builds for LEIP! Intro in Leeuwarden, it’s time to debunk some common myths. Is LEIP! Intro only for first years? Is it only for Dutch-speaking students? Is it just for 18-19 year olds? Is it all about drinking? Maud and Joeri from the Organizing Board of LEIP! Intro sat down with us to set the record straight and clear up these misconceptions.

Whether you are studying at Campus Fryslân or at any other higher education institution in Leeuwarden, you are welcomed into the city's lively student community. This community enjoys many opportunities to socialize, thanks to Leeuwarden Student City (LSC), a team of dedicated professionals who provide students with a fun and memorable study experience. One of these opportunities is LEIP! Intro, the general introduction period for all students in Leeuwarden. In this blog post, we talk about this initiative by debunking some of the most common myths the LSC team has heard over its 25 years of activity.

#Myth 1: “It’s Only for Youngsters” 

Reality Check: One of the most common misconceptions is that the event is only for young students who just came out of high school. Think again!

While LEIP! Intro is tailored for 18- and 19-year-olds just starting their academic journey, it is also a fantastic opportunity for students in their 20s who feel enthusiastic about the event programme and want to take it as a chance to network.

#Myth 2: "It Is Mainly Designed for Dutch Students"

Reality Check: Far from it! Up to this point, we have identified 31 different nationalities among the ticket purchasers!

Over the years, approximately 30-40% of participants have been international students, many of whom come directly from StudentStay. This year, the number of international attendees is set to meet that of Dutch students, making it a 50-50 event! Activities are offered in both Dutch and English to create a welcoming environment for everyone. And yes, while the sing-along might be in Dutch, that one is a fun way to learn the tunes you'll hear at local clubs!

#Myth 3: "LEIP! Intro Is Just for Freshmen"  

Reality Check: Although LEIP! Intro is designed with first-year students in mind, it’s not exclusively for them. The programme has enough in it to engage people at various stages of their university experience, with activities such as a treasure hunt, a sing-along, a pub-crawl, sports and games, and plenty of social dinners!

Whether you’re a freshman or further along into your study journey, this event is a unique opportunity for students at any level. It’s all about bringing people together, regardless of their academic year or university affiliation.

#Myth 4: "It’s Just About Drinking" 

Reality Check: While there is a pub crawl on the first day, LEIP! Intro offers much more than just drinking. The event aims to be respectful and inclusive, which is why you’re absolutely welcome to enjoy it without feeling the pressure of moments that involve drinking alcohol!

#Myth 5: "Nobody from My University Will Show Up"  

Reality Check: LEIP! Intro attracts a diverse crowd, with students from all universities in Leeuwarden being well represented. The event is all about mixing students from different backgrounds and personalities to create a dynamic atmosphere.

Regardless of where you study, be it NHL, Van Hall, UG, Firda, Aeres, or ROC Friese Poort, you are warmly invited to join and contribute to making the event truly special!
