Groningen - The University of Groningen Business School (UGBS) and the EDI Business School of New Energy Coalition are launching a 2-year Executive Master's programme in Energy Transition: a first for the coalition. The part-time MBA programme starts in 2021 and offers a combination of online and offline education - this hybrid form fits in with the way of studying in the new reality and makes global participation easy. The programme is internationally accredited. Enrolment will be open from 1 October next.

The energy transition is one of the greatest challenges facing organisations and policymakers today. One of the most important characteristics of this system transformation is the enormous variety of factors that can make the transition either succeed or fail. The Executive MBA Energy Transition programme covers the economic, administrative, social and societal aspects of the energy transition in order to prepare the participants for a leading role in the transition.

Programme director of the new MBA programme is Machiel Mulder, professor at the Faculty of Economics and Business of the University of Groningen and programme director of the new MBA programme: 'The energy sector is changing – it must change. This requires professionals with excellent management skills, with strategic insight and vision and a deep understanding of the economics and business aspects of energy systems within societal context. This programme has been designed to meet these demands'.

'It makes perfect sense that this MBA has been developed in Groningen: our region is currently at the heart of the energy transition as a result of the closing down of Europe’s largest natural gas fields that are located in our region; for decades all aspects of energy knowledge has been gathered, within the University of Groningen and in our coalition. That knowledge is now merged in this MBA programme. I am proud of what we have achieved in developing the programme together with the University of Groningen,' says Marieke Abbink, CEO of New Energy Coalition.

UGBS is a renowned business school of the University of Groningen, scoring consistently high in major international quality rankings. The Energy Delta Institute (EDI) Business School offers an international network and extensive knowledge of the global energy world. The cooperation in this MBA programme offers an optimal combination of academic and practical knowledge and networking opportunities.
