Support the Arctic Tern

The Arctic Tern is a sensational bird. Every year it flies 50,000 miles from the North Pole to the South Pole and back. Maarten Loonen, scientist at the Arctic Centre of the University of Groningen, tracks the itineraries of the Arctic tern and hopes to understand the impact of climate change on the migratory birds. In 2013 Maarten started a crowdfunding campaign with the Ubbo Emmius Fonds , to raise money for equipment.

Since the start we raised nearly € 40.000 for this project. Maarten and his team were able to equip 107 birds with a geolocator. In 2014, research expanded to include two new locations, Eemshaven and the white sea (Russia).
