During the summer, I saw the exam results posted on the wall; full names were listed, privacy wasn't done in those days. Another 3 out of 10. I couldn't go on like this, I concluded. I gave myself a choice: Law or Art History. Coming from the Faculty of Arts in the Grote Kruisstraat, I passed the Art History department in the Kijk in't Jat. So I went in there first. It suited me; it was a small and compact institute. So Art History it was then.'
