DELTA Netherlands Environmental Scholarship Owner 2012
I am from Taiwan, and I have been fascinated by the art of supply chain since college, so I decided to pursue a master’s degree in the related field to broaden my knowledge and strengthen my skills. The Netherlands is famous for its logistics and supply chain because of its advantageous location in Europe. Canal transportation, flower and trade logistics and sustainable and environmental developments represent the beauty of The Netherlands. These are the reasons why I decided to study Supply Chain Management at the University of Groningen.
In Groningen, I lived at the Martinihouse, located in the southern part of the city. It was 12 kilometers back and forth to Zernike every day, this made me experience the real Dutch lifestyle. People are very easy going in the student city. Reading a book in the warm sunshine or appreciating blossoming flowers could be the most wonderful thing in the world. I believe that it is this pure lifestyle that cultivates numerous talents.
It’s never easy to study at a top university, especially when choosing a well-known expertise of its country. The schedule was tight, and I had to squeeze everything into my brain and I could develop a lot within nine months of studying. What I learnt! I learnt prioritization and time management because of the intensive courses and endless assignments. To be honest, in the beginning I failed when doing the thesis proposal, but I did not give it up; instead, I devoted all my time to improve the proposals. In the end, I succeeded, and I graduated on time. At times it was tiring and frustrating, but this was the best training I could gift to myself. The most important of all, the pro-active attitude led to the accomplishment.
With time, I may forget academic theories; however, I have internalized those abilities acquired from invisible training. Independent thinking, pro-active attitude and strong determination made who I am today. I would be dauntless when facing difficulties, and I think this might be the reason why I never felt nervous in any of the job interviews.
