Why the University of Groningen?
After obtaining my bachelor´s degree in Austria, I decided to pursue a master´s degree abroad, too. Having chosen the Netherlands for my studies, the University of Groningen (UG) immediately impressed me with its excellent reputation and its variety of double degree programmes. My expectations about the University were already high before arriving in Groningen, a city I have never heard of before. And I was not disappointed. My degree programme gives me the opportunity to follow highly interesting and relevant courses. The professors have rich academic and international expertise and they are always open to help and guide each student.
Why Groningen?
Not only did the University prove to be the right choice, but also Groningen amazed me from the very first day. Coming from the countryside in Germany, I have always preferred to study in smaller cities. Therefore, Groningen is the perfect choice for me - a small, yet vibrant city where everything is a bike ride away. During the day, I like to spend my time in one of Groningen´s parks, in one of the many cozy cafés, or at the weekly farmer’s market. In the evening, students can enjoy open-air concerts, pub quizzes or many other events, often organized by different student associations. There are choices for every taste. Additionally, I enjoy the perfect balance between studies and leisure time. Groningen provides many different sports facilities for students, including fitness classes. Furthermore, if you want to meet other students or try a new activity, there are various student associations for every kind of interest. When speaking about Groningen, I should not forget to mention the openness and kindness of Groningers. Almost everyone is fluent in English and willing to help you with any issue you might face. This is what immediately made me feel at home in Groningen.
