Nominate the Alumnus of the Year 2026

Since 2009, the UG has presented the Alumnus of the Year award annually to a special former student. Last year the prize went to Khalaf Alkhalaf for his commitment to providing good care and guidance to refugees in the Netherlands and the inspiring way in which he shares his experiences and knowledge with refugees, students, and professionals. Check out this overview of previous winners.
We invite you to nominate your favorite alumnus for the title of Alumnus of the Year.
The award is both an expression of appreciation and encouragement for a former student who:
-
has made a special contribution to society, science, sport or culture;
-
is a source of inspiration for others
-
counts as a promise for the future (it is an 'early / mid-career' award).
The jury will choose a winner from all nominations (from faculties, but also from alumni, employees, etc.). Attention will be paid to the election through, among other things, a press release, social media, an interview in Broerstraat 5 and a festive presentation.
Nominate before 15 April 2026!

The prize for the Alumnus of the Year is a specially designed sculpture of visual artist Wia van Dijk. The 'Athena Noctua' is a pure and powerful bronze statue that stands for wisdom, curiosity, and pride. Each year the sculpture is personalized by changing the color of the eyes to match the personality of the winner.
