Lecturer in Spatial Planning & Design (0.8 FTE) (V24.0343)

Job description

As a Lecturer, you will contribute to teaching in the Bachelor programme Spatial Planning & Design. Your main teaching tasks will be related to the studio-based Spatial Design courses as well as research skills courses – such as Introduction to Academic Research, the Bachelor Thesis Project or the Master Theses. We will adjust the exact teaching requirements to your background and experience.

As Lecturer you will be positioned within the department Planning and Environment. This Department is involved in the Master programmes Society, Sustainability & Planning and Environmental & Infrastructure Planning, and both bachelor programmes of the Faculty entitled ‘Spatial Planning & Design’ and ‘Human Geography & Planning’. Research at the Department of Planning & Environment focuses on issues of spatial and institutional design for purposeful interventions within the human environment.

Qualifications

  • Has a Master’s or PhD degree in Spatial Planning, Landscape Architecture, Urbanism, Urban Design or related socio-spatial field.
  • Has experience in teaching in higher education; awareness of and willingness to use the latest innovations in teaching techniques.
  • Is in the possession of a University Teaching Qualification or is prepared to acquire this qualification within a reasonable timeframe.
  • Has an interest in and knowledge about Design Thinking within the institutional context of policy-making and planning.
  • Is willing to participate in appropriate Faculty committees and/or other management tasks.
  • Is proficient in using professional digital tools for spatial analysis and visualisation of designs.
  • Is fluent in English and has knowledge of or is willing to learn Dutch (to at least CEFR B2 level – for reading and listening). Dutch language proficiency is a strong asset.

Conditions of employment

We offer you in accordance with the Collective Labour Agreement for Dutch Universities:

  • A salary, depending on qualifications and work experience, with a minimum of € 3,226 to a maximum of € 5,090 (salary scale 10) gross per month for a full-time position.
  • A holiday allowance of 8% gross annual income and an 8.3% end-of-the-year allowance.
  • You will be appointed on a temporary basis for one year, with the possibility of an extension of two years, depending on the (financial) circumstances.
