What is the University of Groningen doing in Antarctica?

In late January, the first Dutch laboratory opened on the South Pole. University of Groningen researchers like Prof. Anita Buma are playing an important role in the research conducted at the laboratory - three of the five current projects are linked to the University. The researchers are studying the influence of increasing melt waters on marine microalgae and looking at greenhouse gases released during an algal bloom.
