Flashing stars: how fast are they?
Earlier this year, the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) awarded a grant to Prof. Scott Trager for WEAVE. This is a multi-object spectograph which will be used in conjunction with the 4.2-m William Herschel Telescope. WEAVE can simultaneously unravel the light from a thousand stars and galaxies and measure their speed. Such information provides information about the creation of the Milky Way and better insight into dark material and dark energy in the universe.
The weekly online video magazine Unifocus highlights topics related to the University of Groningen in the fields of research and society, student life, teaching, policy and internationalization.
