Groningen the centre of new antibiotic development
The University of Groningen is gradually developing into the Dutch centre for research into new antibiotics. The UG and the UMCG were recently given a grant to appoint 34 PhD students, there is a new Centre for Sustainable Antimicrobials, and the University is organizing the Antibiotics – Now! Conference on 2 and 3 May together with the KNAW. Experts from the Netherlands and abroad will then discuss the urgent problem of antibiotic resistance, and especially the development of new antibiotics.
