On the occasion of the visit of Dr Alawia Ibrahim Farag to our university, I would like to invite you to an interactive session on Career counselling and student wellbeing here and there. Dr Alawia is Director of Students’ Affairs at Ahfad University for Women in Omdurman, Sudan. The picture above is taken at the summer school on Finding Your Way in the Education-Work Transition: Mental Resilience and Social Entrepreneurship that took place in Gulu, northern Uganda in July 2024. The participants played the game on student well-being developed by Lisa Kiltz and her supervisor Marjon Fokkens-Bruinsma from the University of Groningen. The picture shows that students in different contexts have similar experiences and efforts to support them can benefit from exchange.

That is why the UNESCO chair on Lifelong Learning, Youth and Work organises a session on Thursday October 10 with the following (provisional) programme:

2.45 PM
Room open (coffee and tea)
3.00 PM
Opening by UNESCO Chair holder Josje van der Linden
3.10 PM
Brief introduction by Alawia Ibrahim about Career counseling and student well-being in Ahfad University for Women, Sudan, before the war, with a look ahead to the challenges after the war
3.30 PM
Brief introduction by Marjon Fokkens-Bruinsma on the project on Resilience and well-being and the materials developed in the framework of that project
3.50 PM
Exploring the game
4.10 PM
Discussion on: similarities, differences, starting points for further cooperation
4.30 PM

We would appreciate your presence. You can share this invitation with anyone you think would be interested to join, inside or outside the university. Please, let me know beforehand if you are planning to participate.

Kind regards,

Josje van der Linden UNESCO chair holder Lifelong Learning Youth and Work, Gulu University, Uganda / University of Groningen
