UG 3rd most sustainable university in global ranking
For the fourth year in a row, the University of Groningen finishes in the top five of the UI Green Metric Ranking. We are very proud of this result and would like to thank everyone who contributed to sustainability in education and research, and in the business operations of the University over the past year.
This year the UG achieved a third place in the ranking with 9475 points. The second place goes to Nottingham Trent University with 9550 points. Wageningen University & Research once again finished in first place with 9575 points. This year, 1477 universities worldwide from 95 different countries participated in the ranking.
The UI GreenMetric Ranking was established by Universitas Indonesia to draw attention to sustainability in the policies and activities of universities. The participating universities are assessed and ranked based on numerical data. The Green Office annually provides the necessary data to participate in the ranking.

The UG has been in the top five of the ranking since 2021. In 2018, 2019 and 2020 the University ended up in the top ten. The fact that the UG is increasingly committed to sustainability is reflected in the results of the ranking.
