International Women's day 2025

On March 8, we celebrate International Women’s Day, a day to honor the strength of women and raise awareness about gender equality and women’s rights. The theme for 2025 is “For All Women and Girls: Rights. Equality. Empowerment.”, marking the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which emphasizes equal rights, opportunities, and access for women and girls.

International Women’s Day has a long history as a social movement for women’s suffrage, better working conditions, and gender equality. Today, it remains an important occasion to take action against inequality and injustice.

To mark this important day, several faculties within UG are organizing special events and activities for their own communities. Additionally, Young Academy Groningen and the Jantina Tammes School are organizing the symposium "Female Portraits: Gender in Academia", which is open to everyone. This event will explore the impact of gender roles, representation, and institutional structures on career paths and inclusivity in academia.
