Prof. J.E. Wieringa, Faculty of Economics and Business
Jaap E. Wieringa is a professor of Research Methods in Business. Since 2013, he has been a visiting professor at Exeter Business School. He gained an MSc in Econometrics (1994) and a PhD in Economics (1999) from the UG. He has taught at universities in Los Angeles (UCLA), Bochum, Brussels, Berlin, Milan and Rome.
Jaap’s motivation in both teaching and research is to work with and develop methods for analyzing data to solve real business problems. His earlier consultancy experience in industry comes in very handy. He enjoys experimenting with new learning methods and has also co- developed a learning community with a focus on analytics in rich data environments. He has taught a large number of course units over the years, varying from mentoring first-year discussion groups about the basics of marketing to post-graduate course units on econometric methods. Jaap has more than 25 years of teaching experience at all academic levels. Over the past 10 years, he has consistently ranked among the top five best teachers in the Faculty of Economics and Business and won his faculty’s Lecturer of the Year award in 2009, 2010 and 2019.
