Prof. P. Valdivia Martin

Pablo Valdivia Martin is a Professor of European Culture and Literature. Before joining the University of Groningen in 2016, he worked at the University of Amsterdam, the Cambridge Foundation Villiers Park and the University of Nottingham. He holds degrees from the University of Granada and the University of Valladolid.

Valdivia is passionate about his subject and very knowledgeable. Students describe him as inspiring as well as motivating, and point out that he is always open for discussion and suggestions. ‘He really tries hard to make the courses fun and interesting!’ In literature there is often room for interpretation. He is always receptive to this, encouraging students to share their views. He uses technology, such as Mentimeter, for this purpose. Valdivia also deploys modern methods of assessment, Perusall for example, which allows students to interact. His classes are always carefully prepared to ensure that the material is being taught in the best possible way, so that students do not only understand but also enjoy being in the class. Valdivia is keen to push students to fulfil their potential. He also feels strongly that teaching should go hand-in-hand with research, something that is reflected in all of his courses.
