Dr J.H.M. ter Haar
Hans ter Haar is University Lecturer of Private Law and Notary Law. His research and teaching focus largely on the fields of family property law, notarial law and law regarding electronic signatures. In addition, Ter Haar is a very respectable artist who paints colourful works on the subject of 'Humans and Nature’.
Ter Haar is a committed lecturer who is certainly not content to just go through the motions, but instead activates and inspires students and pays them sincere attention. He is passionate about his profession, and his students appreciate him for that. Law offers a system of rules that students learn in order to be able to apply them later on. As a science, however, it is not always properly understood. Ter Haar’s teaching is based on his conviction that there is an enormous diversity of views behind the rules. He believes that students can only become good lawyers if they understand this fact and think about it critically. Provoking students to think and stimulating them tangentially is a key feature of his teaching. Together with other lecturers, Ter Haar regularly goes on international student trips organised by the student association Vevonos, not least to get to know the students better.
