Drs. M.A.C. Versluis
Marco Versluis is a gynaecologist and obstetrician. He teaches Reproductive Health, from contraception and female health, through to pregnancy and birth. He also promotes internationalization at the Faculty. Since 2012, he has worked as a trainer in a Surgical Training Programme in Masanga, Sierra Leone. As well as being voted the Faculty’s Teacher of the Year, he was also nominated Best English-Speaking Teacher.
Versluis has a good sense of humour and is swift to adapt his stories to suit the audience, resulting in lectures that are interactive, engaging and never boring. He knows how to activate pre-existing knowledge by using the right questions. He inspires his students, pushing them to their limits, making them enthusiastic about the subject matter and showing them the bigger picture. When his students experience difficulties, he is there to support them with 24/7 ‘emergency assistance’ and excellent long-term ‘aftercare’. Versluis is open to discussions and always willing to explain his reasoning. On the verge of finishing his PhD, he is also investigating the best ways to train medical doctors of the future. He often experiments with new ways of exciting students during his lectures.
