Dr. H.T. Adriaenssen

Han Thomas Adriaenssen is University Lecturer in the Faculty of Philosophy. He completed his studies in Philosophy and Italian cum laude at the University of Groningen and gained his doctoral degree, also cum laude, in 2013. Since 2018, Adriaenssen has been a member of the Young Academy of the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW).

The fact that he has been Faculty Lecturer of the Year five times makes it clear that Adriaenssen is more than capable of conveying his fascination for philosophy. To quote one of his students: ‘His contagious enthusiasm about philosophy is enough to make anyone fall hopelessly in love with the subject. I always enjoy his lectures because he really loves talking about his profession’. Students feel free to think and say what they like in his lectures. For first-year students in particular, it can be a bit daunting to venture an opinion or an idea in a tutorial, but Adriaenssen manages to create a working environment in which no-one feels excluded. And he’s got a grip on things, as one student says. ‘I never saw him drop any stitches.’ With his expertise and skills, he certainly makes his mark on the Faculty of Philosophy. Students and colleagues alike agree that he ‘raises the Faculty to a higher level’.
