Van der Vlist, Prof. Arno
Arno van der Vlist (1971) is professor of Real Estate Development at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences. He studied Agricultural Economics at Wageningen and in 2001 gained a PhD in Economics at the VU University Amsterdam. Since then, Van der Vlist has worked in the real estate business and at the University of Wageningen. He was a co-founder of the Real Estate Club Groningen, aimed at strengthening relations between academia, business, government, alumni and students.
Real Estate Studies at the Faculty of Spatial Sciences concentrates on the development of real estate from a spatial science perspective. As a result, the University of Groningen holds a unique position in teaching and research on real estate in the Netherlands. Current practice within real estate development usually concentrates on developing concepts and optimizing the development process. From an economics point of view, real estate development is still rather supply-driven. Van der Vlist, specialized in spatial economics research, is investigating more demand-driven development.
