Sinterklaas went to China for the first time

The Netherlands Alumni Network China (NANC) organized another Annual General Event (AGE) on 5 December 2009. One of the highlights of AGE 2009 was the Sinterklaas Celebration, when Sinterklaas came to greet all the alumni living in Shanghai. AGE is the biggest and most important alumni event organized by NANC every year. Alumni get together to recall the cheerful, memorable times they had in the Netherlands.

More than 100 alumni, members and contacts from the Shanghai Consulate General were present. Mr Jacques van Vliet, Director of Nuffic Neso China, and Mr Eric Verwaal, the Shanghai Consul General, were also present and welcomed all those attending. Sinterklaas came all the way to Shanghai with his trusty helpers the ‘Zwarte Pieten’. He asked a few questions, such as: ‘Do you know where I am originally from? What will happen if you are naughty?’ And of course he had also brought gifts for whoever had behaved well.

Two lucky alumni each won a Shanghai-Amsterdam round-trip ticket in a draw. Mr Michael Liu, KLM Corporate Sales Manager, handed over the tickets to the winners on stage!
