Partial solar eclipse 29 March

A partial solar eclipse will be visible on Saturday, 29 March. 24% of the sun's surface will be covered. The phenomenon starts at 11 am 20 minutes, maximum is at 12 pm 13 minutes and ends at 1 pm 7 minutes. These times apply to the city of Groningen. Telescopes are set up at various locations in the province, astronomers from the RUG provide explanations and, of course, eclipse glasses are available.

From Groningen to the Wadden

In the city of Groningen there are two observing sites: the roof of Forum Groningen and Cafe Zondag in the Noorderplantsoen. Along the Wadden coast, eclipse teams are active at the activity center Lauwersnest, De Rug 1, Lauwersoog and at 't Zielhoes on the dike in Noordpolderzijl. There are also observations at the public libraries of Vlieland and Terschelling.

The last solar eclipse in the Netherlands was on Oct. 25, 2022, and was easily visible in the northern Netherlands thanks to excellent conditions. With bad weather on March 29, we will have to wait until Aug. 12, 2026.
