Frisian language passed on better than Low Saxon
Frisian fares better than Low Saxon. Frisians use the language more often at home and pass it on better than people living in the Low Saxon language area. Frisian also mixes less with Dutch than with Low Saxon. This is the conclusion of PhD candidate Raoul Buurke in his thesis “Frisian and Low Saxon in flux”, in which he examined the state of these two languages in recent decades. He will receive his PhD at the University of Groningen on 13 February. His PhD project was carried out in cooperation with the Centrum Groninger Taal en Cultuur.
