UG unveils seven new professor portraits
On the evening of Thursday 16 January, the UG unveiled seven new professor portraits that will hang in the Senate Room and the faculty rooms in the Academy Building of the University.
Senate Room
This year, two professors had their portrait taken because of their exceptional achievements in their field. The portraits are intended for the Senate Room. The Senate Gallery will see the addition of the portraits of astronomer and Spinoza Prize winner Amina Helmi, and professor in Human Genetics, Spinoza Prize winner and former rector magnificus of the UG Cisca Wijmenga.
Faculty rooms
At the initiative of friends, family, or colleagues, five emeritus professors donated a portrait to the University: philosopher of science Theo Kuipers, mathematician Harry Trentelman, chemist Gerrit Challa, pediatrician Pieter Sauer and surgeon Tjark Ebels. These portraits are intended for the faculty rooms of Philosophy, Science and Engineering, and Medical Sciences.
