Indonesian Director General visits UG
As a follow-up from the recent visit of a UG delegation to Indonesia, the UG hosted an Indonesian delegation led by Prof. Nizam, the Director General of Higher Education from Indonesia on Saturday 26 November. The main outcome of the discussion between Prof. Nizam and Jouke de Vries, President of the University of Groningen, is that the UG, its strategic partner Universitas Gadja Madah, and other Indonesian and possibly Dutch partners will work on a roadmap for the coming years to develop collaboration in education and research.
Themes discussed were energy, health, water, urban development. For the UG, deepening relations with partners abroad is one of the ways to share knowledge across border and learn from partners who deal with similar societal challenges in their own context. Through intensified partnership, the UG aims to create more opportunities for academic collaboration and exchange for our staff and students.
The roadmap will be prepared by a team from International Strategy & Relations led by the 3 academic ambassadors for Southeast Asia: Prof. Bayu Jayawhardana, Prof. Ron Holzhacker, and Prof. Maarten Postma.
After the strategic discussions the broader group of Indonesian guests, consisting of representatives from universities and the government, met with the Indonesian community at UG and visited Zernike campus for a visit to the 5G Student Battle hackathon and a tour of the Energy Academy and the lab of Prof. Bayu Jayawardhana.
