Groningen Science Quiz

What do bananas and cucumbers have in common? Why does sweat smell sometimes and not at other times? Why are some people colour-blind? And how was the Martinitoren built? On 24 May, it is already time for the second edition of the Groningen Science Quiz, presented by science communicator Anna Gimbrère and overseen by a jury that includes Nobel Prize winner Ben Feringa. The quiz will start at 8 p.m. at the Rabo Studio in Forum Groningen, Nieuwe Markt 1.
Pull up a chair to the tricky quiz full of striking questions and brain teasers from a variety of academic fields. Three pairs of academics from the University of Groningen will compete in the studio, and you can join in too, either on location or from home! Physics, languages, geography, and history – alongside logical reasoning and philosophy, this quiz will also test your historical awareness and flair for languages.
The three pairs who will be competing against each other in the studio this year are: chemist Jim Ottelé and biomedical scientist Aranka Ballering, archaeologist Nathalie Brusgaard and Arabist Hisham Hamad, and sociologist Bram van Vulpen and linguist Audrey Rousse-Malpat.
The jury comprises Ben Feringa, Cisca Wijmenga, and Maaike Borst.
The Groningen Science Quiz is organized by Studium Generale Groningen, the Ben Feringa Fund, and Forum Groningen.
