Man and animals grow closer in wartime

The First World War was an important pivotal moment in history with regard to the relationship between humans and animals, according to research conducted by historian Monika Baár. The connection with animals like dogs and horses that developed on the battlefield led to a different view of animals. The First World War would have a major impact on the training of guide dogs for the blind. Professional guide dog training began a century ago during the war.
