Title: In silico inference versus in vivo reality: the molecular ecology and conservation genetics of marine mammals
Leeropdracht: Mariene biologie
Faculty: Mathematics and Natural Sciences
Analysis of DNA is now widely employed to study the evolution, ecology and conservation of natural animal and plant populations and have provided valuable insights into the past evolution and present ecology of natural populations. However, the interpretation of genetic data is not without issues and needs careful consideration in order to avoid erroneous conclusions potentially affecting the continued conservation of endangered populations. In his inaugural lecture Professor Per Palsbøll illustrates some of the current difficulties and outlines possible solutions in the application of genetic analyses to study the ecology and conservation of marine mammals.
