Science undergraduates and teaching careers

Although the number of mathematics and science undergraduates in Dutch universities is rapidly rising, the number of science students opting for teacher education courses and a teacher career in secondary school is stable and low. In this project we tried to find out which motives students have for not choosing a teacher career.

More specific, we were interested in those student that followed a teacher education course during their bachelor and how this course influenced their interest.

Further, we investigated mathematics and science undergraduates’ interests and career aspirations to identify the groups of students who are interested in teaching careers.
