Centre for International Relations Research (CIRR)
The Centre for International Relations Research (CIRR) at the University of Groningen brings together a group of nearly 50 scholars, including doctoral and postdoctoral researchers, concerned with understanding orders of governance in time and space. With a particular interest in theoretical, methodological, and policy innovations in the study of international relations, CIRR concentrates its attention on the history and theory of international relations, the history and theory of European integration, international political economy, security studies, and humanitarian action.
CIRR encompasses a wide range of expertise including area studies (Europe, Asia, Latin America, Middle East and Africa), the social and human sciences (political science, International Relations, sociology, cultural theory, philosophy, and history), and diverse methodological perspectives (qualitative, quantitative and visual approaches). It contributes to the University of Groningen’s research societal thems of Sustainable Society , Energy and Healthy Ageing .
The Centre, through its constituent chair groups, regularly hosts external researchers and research students. It organises events in areas of wide interests such as global affairs and also of specialist concern for academia and society. It operates in close collaboration with the Centre for East Asia Studies, Globalisation Studies Groningen, and the Centre for Religion, Conflict and Globalization.
