Innovating STEAM education for a sustainable future

EU-funded project OTTER conducts conference in Brussels to explore the latest tools and technologies in open schooling and education outside the classroom
22 January 2024

The EU-funded project OTTER, with the support of the Open Schooling Together network, is excited to invite teachers, researchers, policy makers, and any other education enthusiasts, to join the “Beyond the classroom: rethinking STEAM education” conference, which will take place on 15 February 2024 in Brussels, Belgium, at the NH Hotels Carrefour de l’Europe.

In recent years, studies have proven that learning in out-of-the-classroom settings, such as museums, science centres, botanical gardens, or simply in nature, can be highly beneficial to students’ skills development, from improving critical thinking and reasoning, to boosting their empathy and capacity to communicate with their peers. OTTER has been working on developing resources to guide teachers and educators in implementing such activities with their students, with a particular focus on environmental education and sustainability.

The event will not only showcase OTTER’s work, but will also provide a wider perspective on open schooling practices and their role in boosting STEAM education across Europe. It will feature a panel discussion and a World Café where participants will have the opportunity to exchange ideas, share experiences and work together.

“We dedicate this event to open discussions about benefits, but also challenges of Open Schooling and specifically how they affect teaching STEAM subjects. We will give a platform to educators and policy makers alike, to share their views and address topics such as how to transform policies, facilitate Education Outside the Classroom, teach transversal skills and sustainability through STEAM subjects.”-- Jelena Kajganović, OTTER Project Coordinator

If you want to join the conference, we invite you to secure your spot here. Registration is free of charge. Keep in mind this will be a face-to-face event, with no possibility of online participation.

More information about the event, but also the project’s work, can be found on OTTER’s website and social media channels:
