Aline Seepma en Luca Gelsomino have won both the jury award and the audience award for Best Practices in Teaching and Learning at the Faculty of Economics and Business (FEB). They received the award for their innovative form of teaching that goes beyond the regular teaching platforms.

Aline Seepma en Luca Gelsomino are both Assistant Professor at FEB’s Department of Operations. As the winners of the jury award, they will go on to the University of Groningen wide elections for Best Practices in Teaching and Learning during the university's Education Festival in March.

FEB Best Practice Award

Seepma and Gelsomino were nominated along with colleagues Laetitia Mulder and David Peng. The candidates were nominated through their programme committees for their best teaching practices, i.e., the practices that are the most inspiring, relevant and well-considered. At the award ceremony on Monday 29 January, the three nominees presented their best practice for the academic year of 2022-2023. The audience present at the presentations chose the audience award through votes. A jury consisting of several FEB staff members, including last year’s winner, and last year’s student assessor, chose the winner of the jury prize.

The jury was very impressed with all practices. Seepma and Gelsomino won with their ‘Skills-tasting workshops’. The workshops directly complement the theoretical lectures of the course, using real-world examples and case assignments designed in collaboration with purchasing experts. The aim of the workshops is to empower students to apply their knowledge; provide them a glimpse into the skills and strategic decisions associated with strategic purchasing; and enhance student’s skills and evidence-based decision-making abilities necessary for success in today’s business environment.

Education Festival

The UG-wide prize for Best Practices in Teaching and Learning, for which Seepma and Gelsomino are now the FEB nominees, will be awarded during the UG Education Festival from 25-28 March. As a core event to share ideas and discuss various teaching and learning practices, the festival will be the venue for showcasing best teaching and learning practices.
