Springer Nature contract: limit 2018 Open Access articles without APC reached
According to the agreement between Springer Nature and VSNU, this year 2080 articles from Dutch correspondent authors open access could be published open access without additional APC costs. This limit was reached on December 11, 2018.
In concrete terms, this means that a publishing author between today and January 1, 2019 is no longer automatically recognized as an employee of a Dutch university and can no longer choose for the VSNU deal.
An author can choose between publishing via the traditional subscription model or open access, but in the last case the author himself or herself receives the invoice (€ 2200).
We recommend authors who want to publish open access in a Springer magazine between now and 1 January 2019 wait until 1 January 2019. You can contact an open access contact person at the CMB via openaccess umcg.nl
VSNU, in collaboration with Dutch University Libraries (UKB), will investigate how this undesirable situation can be prevented in the coming years of the contract period. For information for UMCG staff: see libguide Open Access
