Professor Erik Frijlink was appointed as Knight in the Order of the Dutch Lion, celebrating the remarkable impact he has had in both the societal and scientific domain. This Royal decoration recognises Erik and his group’s work, which has led to a host of innovations to improve drug stability and delivery, effectively reducing the treatment burden and enhancing many patients’ quality of life.

Erik received the Royal decoration in a humorous and heartfelt ceremony, led by the mayor of the municipality of Tynaarlo, Marcel Thijssen (see the report of the ceremony, in Dutch). In the presence of his closest family (including his mother) and a few wayward colleagues, Erik could be seen mouthing a few choice words when he walked into the venue of the surprise award ceremony. We assume the Royal decoration somewhat mitigates the disappointment of missing out on a game of bowling (RTV Drenthe news, scroll down for the segment about Erik).

On behalf of the entire institute, we would like to extend our warmest congratulations to Erik and his family.
