Prof. Marc Hertogh appointed as faculty professor at Utrecht University

Prof. Dr Marc Hertogh

Marc Hertogh has been appointed as faculty professor at the Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance of Utrecht University as of 1 May 2024. He will fill the position part-time and will also remain Professor of Law and Society at the Faculty of Law of the University of Groningen.

Social and institutional dimensions of the rule of law

Hertogh’s chair at Utrecht University is called ‘Social and institutional dimensions of the rule of law’. He hopes to connect people from inside and outside the Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance in his new appointment. The goals include developing new courses, creating joint publications and research projects and organizing activities with professionals from the judiciary, politics and media.

Best Practice in Teaching & Learning Award

Hertogh conducts research on law and rule of law from a citizen's perspective. His interests include the social effects of legislation and justice. In addition to his positions at Utrecht University and the University of Groningen, he is a member of the State Commission on the Rule of Law and editor-in-chief of the International Journal of Law in Context.

At the Faculty of Law at the University of Groningen, he enjoys dedicating himself to activating education, which earned him last year’s Best Practice in Teaching & Learning Award.
